Abstract: A group of Irish merchants desire to establish privately a trade relationship between their country and the United States for the mutual benefit of both nations, though they are discouraged from doing so by British parliament; seeks to know whether Jefferson feels the same and whether he could help facilitate such a relationship; Seward has written to Congress on the topic already; shares that the British are outfitting ships to intercept any American vessel that seeks to engage in trade with Ireland.
