Description
Civil War soldier Sergeant Joseph Lawrence Pollard, Co. I, 26th Regiment, Virginia Infantry (Gen. A. P. Hill's division) to his wife Martha Elizabeth 'Pat' Hutchinson Pollard at 'Rosewood' in the upper part of King and Queen County, Virginia. He writes that he has sent her two letters over the past three weeks, so if she has not received them they must have miscarried. He is frustrated with General Elzey and General Wise, especially with their refusal to grant furloughs for the soldiers. He discusses recent news and tells her to feed any soldier who comes by but not to allow them in the house. Typescript.
